Childbirth Education
A childbirth class is a great way to prepare for labor and birth. MGH offers classes throughout the year.
The class includes six weekly sessions and consists of lectures and exercises led by a trained childbirth instructor. The goal is to provide you with information to minimize your fears and help you make informed decisions, and teach you techniques to help you relax and cope.
Classes cover:
- Some Common Discomforts in Pregnancy
- Nine Months of Change and Wonder
- Techniques for coping with pain
- How your partner can help you during labor
- When to call your doctor or midwife
Classes also cover the basics of breastfeeding and immediate newborn care. Classes also discuss certain childbirth complications and how they might be handled. The classes show videos of both a vaginal birth and a c-section. Finally, these classes are also a great opportunity to meet other expectant parents.
